GGS Celebrates World Environment Day 2017!

In a world of emerging technologies where our phones have become an extension of ourselves, it’s easy to forget about the simple things, like spending time in nature. There are numerous studies that prove how spending more time outdoors does wondrous things for the body, from decreasing stress to improving memory, yet most people just don’t make time for it.

This year’s World Environment Day is hosted by Canada and themed “Connecting people to nature.” In South Florida, we’re incredibly lucky to be surrounded by some unique and beautiful sites, like the everglades. In honor of World Environment Day, we challenge you to enjoy some time outside this week and reconnect with nature.

To help you do just that, Green Group Studio put together a list of some of our favorite hidden gems in the West Palm Beach area so that you too can make the most out of World Environment Day this year. We’ll see you there!

1. Okeeheelee Park

There are tons of outdoor activities available at Okeeheelee Park, located just off of Forest Hill Boulevard! Within its 1,702 acres of land, you’ll find numerous sports fields, an equestrian center, biking and walking paths, dog parks, boating areas, and more.

2. Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge

With over 140,000 acres of land, Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge is located on the northernmost end of the Everglades in Loxahatchee, Florida. With numerous miles of walking and biking trails, along with kayaks available for rent, there’s no limits to what you can experience! Before heading off on your adventure, stop by the Visitor Center to learn more about some of the amazing creatures you’re bound to see during your time in this refuge.

3. Gumbo Limbo Nature Center

In addition to protecting 20 acres of precious barrier reef along Boca Raton’s coast, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center also focuses on informing the public and enhancing marine ecosystems through research, education, preservation, and conservation. Take a walk through one of the trails, stop by the Nature Center, or learn more about their sea turtle rehabilitation efforts at the outdoor marine aquariums.

4. Green Cay Nature Center

100 acres of wetlands with 1.5 miles of elevated boardwalks makes Green Cay Nature Center in Boynton Beach a great place to spend some time this weekend! Stop by the Nature Center for more information on the surrounding area, as well as the incredible animals that live there, before heading off at a leisurely pace through the park.

5. Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens

With 16 acres of land and six different gardens to stroll through, the Morikami Museum in Delray Beach, Florida is a no brainer! These gardens are more than just aesthetically pleasing, you’ll also have the chance to learn about Japanese culture as well. Combine technology and nature by using their app to learn more about all the wildlife located throughout the gardens.
