A couple week ago, Green Group Studio celebrated Earth Day by taking a private guided tour though the main exhibit and sea turtle rehabilitation areas of Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach, Florida.
Run by a group of individuals who are dedicated to the conservation of threatened and endangered sea turtles, Loggerhead Marinelife Center is a non-profit organization with a focus on research, rehabilitation, and education. In addition to providing private tours, the center also hosts field trips, outreach programs, summer camps, and other educational experiences for members of the South Florida community.
Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s exhibit hall and aquariums showcase a variety of salt water wildlife native to Floridian coastal ecosystems, including sea urchins, sea stars, and even lobsters. The hall also displays several sea turtle skeletons, one of which is an enormous overhanging replica of the Archelon (found in North Dakota no less), thought to be the largest sea turtle to have ever lived.
Our tour continued into the rehabilitation area, a large outdoor space with massive tanks for the sick and injured sea turtles that were brought to the center to recover in before their eventual release back into the ocean. During this part of the tour, the Green Group Studio team got to meet turtles in various stages of recovery and learn about the techniques employed by the center to track their progress upon release.
After concluding our tour, Green Group Studio adopted three sea turtles—two small Hawksbill-Loggerhead hatchlings, and a Loggerhead named Betty White.
